Vetting Cost for Severely Injured Dog from NW IN

Organized by Dawn Sutherland on behalf of Independent Dog Rescuer, Nancy McAdam

Donations for Vet Care
On the afternoon of Thursday February 2nd, 2010, I received a phone call from the ACO at the shelter that I help volunteer for.

She had just picked up a dog that had a severe injury to one of her front legs. It was unknown at that time what the cause of the injury was, but by the picture she had sent me it was extremely obvious that is was severe and the dog must be in extreme pain.

I immediately sent out a plea to try to find this poor baby a rescue that would commit to saving her. Thankfully Jamie from Almost Home committed quickly and we were able to arrange for a transport volunteer to get her picked up and moved to the vet within an hour.

Upon arriving at the vet, it was discovered that she was just a young dog of about 1 year old and only weighed about 20 pounds. It was also discovered that her injury was not an accident, but was caused by a gun shot!

Her bone was completely shattered and she was scheduled to have the leg amputated the next morning. Throughout all of this, I have been told by everyone that has met her that she is a total sweetie who never stops wagging her tail :)

She is now recovering from her amputation surgery and has a long road ahead of her. She will be available for adoption once she has recovered and hopefully will find a loving forever home quickly.

Thank you in advance to anyone that can help donate toward her mounting medical costs.
